Small Farm Outreach Program
Michael L. Wooden is the Program Assistant for a USDA Grant on Agribusiness Production and Financial Management at Virginia State University - Small Farmer Outreach Program. Michael provides assistance to producers in Virginia in completing borrower training through a series of workshops held in various locations in the state. Michael is a native of Surry County, Virginia. He was raised on the peanut, corn, soybean and wheat farm. He attended L.P. Jackson High School in Dendron, VA. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education from Virginia State University in 1979.
Michael was an agricultural teacher in the Southampton, Virginia school system after graduating VSU. He has over 30 years of experience with USDA. During his tenure with the USDA-Farm Service Agency he served as a County Executive Director in Southwest Virginia and also he served as the District Director for 13 counties in Southwest, VA. During his career he had the opportunity to serve as the USDA Liaison Officer for Virginia State University. In 2009 Michael was appointed the State Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency by President Obama. During his final years of service with USDA Michael was appointed the Director of Field Operations for the Farm Service Agency in Washington, DC.
