Scott brings extensive experience in academic leadership, research, and extension services. He is a full professor and currently serves as dean of the VSU College of Natural and Health Sciences, where he has been instrumental in advancing the university’s pursuit of high research activity status and expanding opportunities for minorities and women in science careers since July 2022.

"It is an honor to serve as interim dean of the College of Agriculture at Virginia State University," Scott said. "I am committed to being a resource for our dedicated faculty and staff and strengthening collaborations across campus."

He continued, "Agriculture is at the heart of our institution’s mission. Together, we will build on our legacy, expand opportunities for research and extension, and equip our students with the tools to drive meaningful change in the industry."

Scott, who was appointed to the National Board of Education Sciences in 2022, serves on the 15-member panel appointed by the U.S. president. Before joining VSU, he held multiple positions at Delaware State University from August 2016 to July 2022, including executive director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, associate professor (tenured), and assistant professor.

A proud VSU alumnus, Scott earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Virginia State University. He went on to obtain a Master of Science in molecular biology from Virginia Tech and a Ph.D. in integrative biology with a focus on bioinformatics from the University of South Carolina.

In his new role, Scott will oversee the College of Agriculture’s academic programs, research initiatives, and extension services. He plans to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, expand community outreach, and strengthen industry partnerships to ensure that VSU continues to make a meaningful impact on Virginia’s agricultural industry and beyond.
