Conservation Biology: Wetlands and Riparian Corridors of Farms and Landscapes

Wednesday, March 18, 2026 • 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

1147 Laurel Avenue Southwest Norton, VA, 24273

Wetlands and riparian corridors are often the most biologically diverse areas in a landscape. For hundreds of years wetlands were drained to create farmland. Many are now coming to understand that this was a tragic mistake. How can wetlands, stream corridors, and farms co-exist? What benefits do they offer other than water? Come learn about the conservation biology of these special habitats from Dr. Walter (Wally) Smith, Professor of Biology and Chair of the Natural Sciences Department at the University of Virginia's College At Wise.
