New & Beginning Farmer Workshop

AUGUST 15, 2017
9:00am - 11:00am

SURRY COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER
45 SCHOOL STREET, SURRY, VA

New and beginning farmers are invited to learn about the innovative loan products and initiatives from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

This educational workshop is free and open to the public.

USDA FSA’s programs are designed to serve traditionally underserved farmers and ranchers. For example, in its first full year of operation 80 percent of the Operating and Farm Ownership Microloans went to beginning farmers, the underserved, and military veterans.  Further, FSA is working to expand credit in areas where there are few lenders or where cultural or economic conditions limit the availability of credit.

You will meet a FSA Farm Loan Specialist as well as trained agricultural agents from VSU’s Small Farm Outreach Program (SFOP) who are available to assist you with instituting new production methods and help you develop accurate farm business plans. These agents conduct a variety educational workshops, training events and on-site demonstrations throughout the year that are designed specifically to benefit small and beginning farmers.

For more information call the Small Farm Outreach Program Office at (804) 524-3292 or
contact SFOP Agent Alvin Adkins (aadkins@vsu.edu / 804-524-6966).

If you are a person with a disability and desire any assistive devices, services or other accommodations to participate in this activity, please contact the Small Farm Outreach office at (804) 524-3292 /TDD (800) 828-1120 during business hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to discuss accommodations five days prior to the event.
