Small Farm Spotlight Series: Preparing for Lambing/Kidding

Beginning and experienced sheep/goat producers will visit Shepherd’s Way Farm to get a glimpse of best management practices for pre-lambing/kidding and post-lambing/kidding from seasoned small ruminant farmer, Lisa Lewis. This workshop includes a hands-on demonstration with a birthing model. Additional topics include preventing lamb/kid loss, the importance of colostrum, strategies for troubleshooting when birthing complications occur, and diagnosing and treating newborn lamb/kid problems. Lee Wright, Superintendent and Sheep Specialist of the Southwest Virginia Agricultural Research Extension Center, will also provide instruction and demonstration.
