Join Redfern Hemp Co. at their 42-acre historic farm in Caroline County for Hemp Field Day, an immersive afternoon exploring regenerative hemp agriculture. Guided by founder Graham Redfern’s “Birds, Bees, Bulls & Biomass” model, attendees will gain hands-on insights into sustainable farming practices that integrate hemp with biodiversity, soil health, and livestock. Experts from VSU’s Small Farm Outreach Program, including Derrick Gooden, along with representatives from Virginia’s Hemp Enforcement Program, will cover best practices in hemp cultivation and compliance. The day also features a live Hempcrete building demonstration, showcasing the power of hemp in sustainable construction, and a deep dive into Virginia’s colonial hemp history led by in-house historian and author Joe Domino. Enjoy refreshments, local hemp snacks, and community connection from 2–4 PM, then cap off the day with a celebratory Happy Hour at Center of the Universe Brewing outside Ashland, VA. Come grow with us!

For more information, contact Derrick Gooden at 804.586.5352 or dgooden@vsu.edu.
