Basic Soil Science for Small Farmers and Growers

Thursday, April 23, 2026 • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

UVA Wise Library

1 College Avenue Wise, VA, 24293

This is an excellent time to learn about soils and all of the things they do to support us in our daily lives. Come join VSU Soil Expert Tim Sexton and learn why soils are different than you may imagine. You will learn about how soil forms and breaks down to develop different layers, and about the importance of different size particles. Why do some soils have a lot of organic matter and others do not? What things can we do to improve soil health? By improving soil health we improve plant health and our health. The event is limited to the first 8 attendees who register and will be held on the 3rd Floor of the UVA Wise Library, beginning at 10:00 AM on April 23. For more information, please contact Wayne Browning at (804) 760-3932 or wbrowning@vsu.edu
