Cut Flower Production

The Cut Flower Production Program at Virginia State University advances the University’s teaching, research, and Cooperative Extension mission by supporting small- and medium-scale specialty cut flower producers through demonstration, applied research, and outreach. The program emphasizes the production of high-value cut flowers, postharvest care, and value-added products while generating agronomic data to inform best management practices and future research initiatives. A range of flowers are being looked at such as Dahlias, Lisianthus, Amaranth, Cosmos, Scabiosa, Snapdragons, and Asters, with particular emphasis on Dahlia production in both field and high tunnel systems. Through collaboration with growers, the program seeks to identify industry needs and develop practical, research-based solutions that support sustainable and profitable cut flower production.‍
